A Relaxed Sunday at the Llangefni Food Festival

One of the things we love most about living on Anglesey is discovering the local events that bring communities together. This weekend we spent a sunny afternoon at the Llangefni Food Festival, and although it was smaller than we expected, it turned out to be a lovely way to spend a few hours.

The town was full of people enjoying the sunshine, browsing local food and drink stalls, listening to live music and simply taking their time. There was a relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to wander without feeling rushed.

One of the highlights for us was watching a live cooking demonstration by the owner and chef from Catch 22 in Valley. He prepared a delicious fish curry using just a handful of fresh ingredients, explaining each step in such a calm and unhurried way that it made us want to head straight home and cook it ourselves. We’re swapping the fish for chicken this evening, and after seeing today’s demonstration we’ve already decided we’ll be visiting Catch 22 during our week off at the end of July to try the menu for ourselves.

Of course, no food festival would be complete without an ice cream! We couldn’t resist stopping at Georgio’s Ice Cream, where we enjoyed a refreshing strawberry scoop while listening to the local choir perform in the sunshine.

Maggie, as always, attracted plenty of attention. She happily accepted a little taste of ice cream and made several new friends along the way. Anglesey is wonderfully dog-friendly, which is one of the many reasons we love sharing it with guests at Cwtch Nook.

We also came away with something exciting for the cottage. We ordered three handmade wooden benches and three matching tables from Detailed Outdoor Living for the Cwtch Nook patio. We can’t wait to get them in place. They’ll create a lovely spot for guests to enjoy breakfast in the morning sunshine or relax with a glass of wine after a day exploring the island.

Days like this remind us that some of the best experiences on Anglesey aren’t about ticking off famous attractions. They’re about slowing down, meeting local producers, discovering independent businesses, trying fresh food and enjoying the friendly atmosphere that makes the island so special.
